Author: Shape Americans spend more than $33 billion annually on weight-loss products and services, but only one-third of those who try to lose weight do what it really takes. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study found that most people trying to lose weight eat fewer calories, cut dietary fat or exercise more. Less-common methods include skipping meals, using weight-loss supplements, joining weight-loss programs, taking diet pills or diuretics, and fasting. But only one-third follow the formula that's sure to work: eating fewer calories and exercising more.
